Did you know that a PowerPoint 2010 Presentation can be converted into a video without using any third party software? The answer is yes. With MS PowerPoint 2010, Microsoft implemented this feature which makes it easy to turn any PowerPoint presentation into a video as .WMV (i.e. Windows Media Video) file. The converted video file incorporates all recorded timing, narrations, and laser point gestures and preserves animations, transitions and media embedded into the presentation.
This how-to guide illustrates how to turn your PowerPoint presentation slide into video so that you can do following or more with it easily –
1. Burn into DVD and distribute or upload to Video sharing sites such as YouTube etc.
2. Taking it further, convert the .wmv file into .mp4 using free video converter and transfer that file to iPad/iPod or Android based tablets /Smartphones.
3. You can also watch the converted video in Television at your comfort if it contains slideshow of your favorite photos. This doesn't means that you cannot watch your office presentation on your TV – just kidding.
The possibilities are really unlimited and depend on your imagination. This is a great way to share your PowerPoint presentation with those who don’t have PowerPoint installed in their computer or using tablets or Smartphones.
Please be informed that in order to record and playback a narration, your computer must be equipped with a sound card, microphone, and speakers.
Steps to Turn Your Presentation to Video
Step 1: All you need in this step is your PowerPoint presentation all set to be converted. Finalize all the last minutes changes if you have any as it takes a while to convert into video file and I assume that you don’t want to waste time in-case you have to reconvert because of some error in your PPT.
Step 2: Get ready with PPT file, Microphone and Webcam (if you have to include audio and video into slide). Also, make sure you have added animations, transitions, or embed media if you have any.
Step 3: Once the PPT file is open, Click File and then click Save & Send
Step 4: Click Create Video
Step 5: Select the size of the video and whether or not you want to use Recorded Timings and Narrations.
You can create video from PowerPoint Presentation in following formats – select appropriate one based on your need.
[a]. Computer & HD Display: Select this if you want to view the presentation video on computer monitor, projector or high definitions (i.e. HD) display. The resolution of the video will be Large (960 x 720 pixel).
[b]. Internet & DVD: Use this format if you want to upload the file on web or burn to a standard DVD. The resolution of the video will be Medium (640 x 480 pixel).
[c]. Portable Devices: Use this format if your are intended to use it in Smartphones. The resolution of the video will be Small (320 x 240 pixel). It will be really small and will be difficult to read texts.
STEP 6: Select Don't Use Recorded Timings and Narrations if you didn't record and time voice narration and laser pointer movements. The default time spent on each slide is set to 5 seconds. To change that - click the up arrow to increase, or the down arrow to decrease the seconds.
Select Use Recorded Timings and Narrations if you recorded and timed narration and pointer movements.
Step 7: Click on "Create Video" and Type the Filename and select the location to save the converted video file in your computer. You can save it anywhere you want including network drive if mapped in your computer and click Save.
Step 8: Now, Video conversion will start and progress can be viewed at the bottom of the PowerPoint status bar.
Step 9: Your video is ready to be viewed in any compatible video player now. You can take this further and use any Video Converter to convert this video format from .wmv to .mp4 (i.e. MPEG4) video or any other format such as .avi etc.
